Coach Anthony Swain Named Manor ISD's First Sole Athletic Director

Manor ISD is proud to announce that Coach Anthony Swain will now serve as the district's sole Athletic Director. This transition will allow for an enhanced focus on all 78 sports programs offered district-wide.

“At Manor ISD, we strive for excellence in academics, fine arts and athletics as we prepare our scholars to reach their full potential,” said Dr. Andre D. Spencer, Superintendent of Schools. “As we share this great news with our community, I want to highlight the dedicated coaches and athletic staff that work tirelessly to bring greatness out of our scholars.”

“As a proud Manor ISD Alum, I am honored to serve as the District’s first sole Athletic Director and I look forward to building Manor ISD’s athletic footprint,” said Anthony Swain.

Coach Swain, a native of San Antonio, moved to Austin in 4th grade to live with his grandmother. In high school, Swain played both football and basketball. After graduation, he went to Tyler Junior College on a football scholarship. He later transferred to Texas State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Upon graduation, Coach Swain was hired in Manor ISD as a teacher and athletic coordinator at Decker Middle School. Coach Swain then went on to teach AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), where he found his passion in preparing scholars for college and beyond. Coach Swain obtained his Masters in Educational Leadership in May of 2021 from Texas State University.

During the 2017-2018 season, Coach Swain was named the head basketball coach at Manor High School and in just his second season (2018-2019), Coach Swain coached the Running Mustangs to the state semi-finals for the first time in the program’s history. Coach Swain was named Coach of the year in 2019 for the 18-5A program and the Manor Mustangs basketball team was named Team of the Year by the Austin American Statesman after their run to state.

Coach Swain also coached high school football, coaching safeties, and wide receivers, for five years. He was named athletic director for Manor ISD in the spring of 2020, while continuing to coach the Manor High School boys’ basketball team. He's ending his fifth year as Manor High School's head basketball coach, with more than 100 wins.

Coach Swain is married with four children. His wife, Dayna Anthony-Swain, is the principal of Decker Middle School in Manor ISD and all his children attend Manor ISD schools.
