January 11, 2022

Manor, TX - On Saturday, January 7, 2022 scholars from Manor New Technology High School competed in the final rounds of the Texas All-State music competition. For the first time in the history of the Manor Independent School District, three scholars have achieved this incredible honor.

William Webb Jr. First Chair Flute, Band

Daniel Covarrubias First Chair Baritone Saxophone, Band

Daniel Ayala Third Chair Tenor, Choir

Principal Bobby Garcia noted, “This historic achievement is a testament to the dedication of talented scholars and the tireless efforts of our Band and Choral directors to give our scholars the expert guidance they needed to get to this level. Manor New Technology High School is very proud of these scholars and educators and know that these are the first of many to come.“

The Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) sponsors the Texas All-State audition process to promote students’ dedication to their musical knowledge and skill and to encourage educators to support their students in this development. Beginning each fall, approximately 100,000 high school students across the state audition in their TMEA Region. Individuals perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. A select group of musicians advances to compete against musicians from other Regions in their TMEA Area. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform in one of 18 Texas All-State ensembles sponsored by the Band, Orchestra, and Vocal Divisions.

As a result of their achievement in the All-State audition process, scholars become eligible for scholarships in the area of music from top-rated universities and colleges.

Scholars will be invited to attend and perform at the TMEA All-State Clinic and Conference February 9-12, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. These All-State students participate in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally-recognized conductors during the TMEA Clinic/Convention. Their performances for thousands of attendees bring this extraordinary event to a close. For the All-State concert schedule and conductor information, go to the Performances section of www.tmea.org/convention.
