MNTHS Senior Achieves First Runner Up at UIL State Film Competition

 

Manor, TX (March 24, 2021) - Manor ISD is unique in that we offer a variety of choice options at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. In the fall of 2017, Manor New Technology High School established a digital animation program where scholars have the opportunity to compete in the University Interscholastic League’s (UIL) annual film contest. 

 

Their skills and creations are challenged against students from throughout the state in four rounds, across two divisions that are determined by school size. Animation specialists and teachers judged various categories to determine the winners.

 

“Jazmine showed an amazing understanding of movement and animation principles during her first year in the prerequisite course to Animation I,” said her animation teacher, William Rodriguez. “Her skills spurred me to scout her for our competition team.” 

 

Jazmine Leyva-Coronado made it to the final round her first year competing as a Sophomore with her film, “The Guiding Spirit” and again later as a Junior with her film, “Autumn’s Nickname” earning back-to-back second runner-up both years.

 

This year, as a senior, Coronado’s digital animated film “The Eggtordinary Heist'' claimed the first runner-up spot at the State level competition. The Heist tells the story of a dragon egg mistakenly taken for a gemstone and stolen from its mother. A cunning thief is hired to steal the egg back but little does he know that he’d be facing his biggest heist by far; infiltrating the Kingdom’s Castle.

 

Throughout her time in the animation program, Rodriguez explained, “Jazmine has shown an amazing dedication to her own professional growth and has shown incredible agency in expanding her skill set.”

MNTHS Senior logra el primer finalista en la competencia de cine estatal de UIL
