  • Manor High School Mustang Choir Gives Back Through Music

     

    Manor High School Mustang Choir turns their focus to the local and global community.  Videos have been sent to Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin, Dallas Children’s Hospital, and Harvest of Hope Orphanage in Kenya.  The videos are a mix of virtual and in-person students performing songs of hope and encouragement.  The children in the orphanage were so inspired that they are making a video of their choir singing so that Mustang choir students can see it.   The season of giving is not always a gift in a box.  Manor High School Choir has been giving the gift of music to those that desperately need positive lyrics, smiles, and great sound.  We are looking forward to seeing the performance from the children in Kenya.  The Mustang Choir will perform for the MISD Holiday Showcase on December 11, 2020.

  • Spring 2021 Hip Hop Registration Now Open!

    Attention MHS/MSHS scholars interested in Hip Hop!

    What is Dual Credit Hip Hop? Students will receive college credit and Fine Arts Credit towards high school graduation. Scholars will learn how to create and compose original hip hop music.

    3. Create an application account. Once that is done, they will need to scroll to the bottom of the application portal and click on Start New Application.
    4. Make sure to put your basis of admission is Dual Credit and their start term is Credit Term Fall 2020.
    5. You will need a Social Security Number to apply. If you don't have one, request an Alternate ID with this Google Form.

  • MSHS High Steppers Receive First Division Rating

    The MSHS High Steppers drill team received First Division ratings from American Dance’s Virtual Half-Time Showcase. Dance teams were judged based on choreography, showmanship, precision, and technique. The High Steppers are under the direction of Ms. Shelby Miller. Congratulations to the High Steppers team!

  • MISD High School Choral Students Advance to Pre-Area

    On Saturday, October 17, 2020 students from around the State of Texas competed in the Texas Music Educator’s Association All-Region contest in a virtual setting. Students prepared online recordings to submit for judging and five MISD scholars were selected to go on to the Pre-Area auditions held later this fall and one scholar was selected as a member of the All-Region Treble Choir. Congratulations to scholars and their directors!

  • Manor ISD Teachers Win First Year Teacher-Texas Cultural Trust Grants

    Three Manor ISD Fine Arts teachers. Stephanie Rangel (OME), Alessandria Garza (DES) and Trina Simon (DMS) have won First Year Teacher-Texas Cultural Trust Grants. 

    The First Year Teacher Grant is designed to support highly qualified arts teachers in providing quality arts education access to Title I, rural, low arts access communities.  The Texas Cultural Trust seeks to be the leading voice for the arts in education, advocacy, and economic impact in Texas, spotlighting the artistic excellence of our state. 

    The First Year Teacher Grant awards grantees a one-time grant in the amount of $1,500. This grant is intended to help alleviate expenses associated with completing the first year as a teacher.

    TAEA

    Manor ISD Wins 2020 TAEA District of Distinction Award

    Only the top 4 percent of districts in the state, including Manor Indpendent School District, earned the honor this year.

    Manor, TX — September 14, 2020 – The Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) announced the 42 winners of the 2020 District of Distinction Award. Among the list of honorees is Manor ISD. The districts received the honor for providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity and reach all different learners.

    TAEA is the leading advocate for the visual arts in the state. The organization has previously honored outstanding TAEA members for work in their classrooms and districts. This is the second year that TAEA is honoring districts that meet rigorous criteria as evidenced from data.

    For the 2020 award, more than 1,000 districts were eligible to apply. Each district submitted documentation they met from the 12-point rubric over the 2019-2020 school year. Only 42 districts met the high standard and will receive the outstanding honor indicating they are in the top 4 percent of districts in the state.

    “Manor ISD has set a high standard for visual arts advocacy, integrated visual arts curriculum, encouraged creativity and community participation,” said Stacia Gower, Chair of the Administration and Supervision Division of TAEA. “With the challenges educators faced this past school year it is a true testament to their skill, dedication, and flexibility that the quality of their programs continued strong and comprehensive.”

    Fine Arts Director Dr. Bethany Logan noted, "MISD Visual Arts Department is second to none in providing a quality arts education for scholars. Students are given the opportunity to explore different mediums while interacting with the Manor Community."

    Manor ISD is committed to educating the whole child through a rich and comprehensive fine arts education. It is our mission to foster life-long learners from a diverse community cultivating creativity, innovation, and expression through the arts. By providing opportunities for students to use critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and to be actively engaged in the learning process, students are able to explore their areas of interest and have opportunities for self-expression in Pre-K through 12th grades. 

    Manor ISD is proud to again be recognized as a ‘District of Distinction’ from the Texas Art Education Association and was also named in 2020 a ‘Best Community for Music Education’ by the National Association of Music Merchants. A wide variety of fine arts classes are offered at all 17 campuses in Manor ISD in a variety of subjects. In addition, two of our Manor ISD elementary campuses and one middle school are designated as fine arts academies for those students interested in an accelerated fine arts pathway. These campuses offer a more comprehensive and rigorous fine arts catalogue for their students and families and focus on integrating the arts into all subjects.

    As always, we encourage our students and staff to “pour their hearts into the arts” and look for new ways to tell their story. The Manor ISD Fine Arts Department is under the direction of Dr. Bethany Logan, Director of Fine Arts, and Mr. Kellen Segura, Fine Arts Coordinator and serves almost 10,000 students.

    Forty-two districts, including Manor ISD will be honored at the TAEA Administration & Supervision Division meeting as part of the TAEA Conference on November 21, 2020. The event will be held virtually this year.

    About TAEA District of Distinction Award:

    District of Distinction is a fairly new award created by the Texas Art Education Association in 2019. The Administration and Supervision division oversees the award program. The award honors school districts that are leading the way in the visual arts. The TAEA Administration and Supervision Division recognizes districts with outstanding leadership in promoting the arts in their district and community. TAEA wants to identify districts that are actively participating members in areas such as VASE, Junior VASE, and TEAM as a few examples. The organization also looks at field experiences, community service, and community exhibitions to name a few as part of the rigorous rubric for the award.

    TAEA is the largest state professional organization for art educators in the United States. It is the mission of TAEA to promote quality visual arts education through leadership, advocacy, service, and professional development.

    Fine Arts Return to Learn High School Activities

    Practices for Marching Band, Cheer, and Drill Team will resume two days per week.

    At-Home Learning

    According to Manor ISD: Students who select At-Home Learning MAY participate in extracurricular activities if they meet all UIL requirements, are enrolled in the applicable extracurricular course section, and are able to attend on-campus practices and competitions. Students must have their own transportation to and from practices, rehearsals, etc.

    This means that at-home students who have a band, cheer or drill team class on their schedule can choose to participate. At-Home students who decide not to participate in the marching band will have alternate assignments in lieu of practice or rehearsal. These assignments will be productive in nature and not punitive for opting not to participate in extra curricular programs. At-Home students who participate in the marching band, cheer, or drill team will be eligible to receive PE Credit if a grade is given for the course, while students that do not participate will not receive the credit. If cheer is not offered as a course, no PE credit will be awarded.

    Social Distancing and Student Safety:

    • All students participating in band, cheer, and drill team must have an up to date physical with MISD.
    • All student participation in extracurriculars is voluntary and parent transportation must be provided.
    • All students must wear a clean mask and adhere to soical distancing guidelines.
    • All students and staff will be screened prior to practice or rehearsal.
    • All students will bring their own water bottle and not share food or snacks.
    • Students will not be allowed to access locker rooms.

    Marching Band 2020 Show

    The Manor ISD Band staff and design team spent a considerable amount of time agonizing over this season’s show. Due to current conditions, we have decided to push all competitive marching shows to the 2021-2022 season. While we aim to be competitive we cannot ensure a successful contest season without the appropriate rehearsal conditions. With the uncertainties of appropriate rehearsal time along with the uncertainties we have every day, we decided to push the shows to next school year.

    Rather than focus on contests, we are going to focus on sustaining community in rehearsal and in performance. We will not have a reserve block so we can involve every student in every performance. We want to be an example of how awesome our city and school district is through our sustained pursuit of community. In a time of anxiety, insecurity, and unknown, we want to be the example of what community is all about. We will rehearse and perform in a safe, inclusive, respectful, positive, and enjoyable manner. Community over Contests. 

    Each band will perform our normal Traditional Show as well as a themed show after our drill team number. 

    Band Uniforms

    We cannot ensure safe distance practices changing in and out of uniforms before and after performances. In a normal season, each high school uses a singular band hall with small ensemble rooms for all students. This is an impossible environment to ensure safety.

    Rather than requiring students to change on campus, we will have students meet outdoors at designated locations at each campus prior to performances in our Pep Rally uniform. This completely eliminates putting hundreds of students indoors in close quarters. For the 2020 season, the band will wear a band polo shirt, black shorts or long blue jeans (or equivalent), ankle/no-show socks, athletic shoes of choice (conservative colors that complement the uniform). 

    Marching Band Rehearsals During the School Year

    September 8, 2020, we will begin rehearsal two days per week, pending the latest pandemic information.

    We will work with athletics to ensure student participation.

    Cheer and Drill Team

    Cheer and drill team practices will begin two days per week beginning September 8.

    MISD Marching bands, cheer, and drill team will perform only at home games based if it is deemed safe to congregate by county and state officials.

  • Manor ISD Student Among 14 Statewide Winners of Don’t mess with Texas® K-12 Art Contest

    Manor, Texas— Keep Texas Beautiful and The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have selected artwork by 14 Texan students to appear in the 2021 Don’t mess with Texas Calendar. The calendar will include 14 winning designs submitted by students from across the state in the annual Don’t mess with Texas K-12 Art Contest. Among these winners is Jazmine Leyva Coronado from Manor New Tech High School in Manor, Texas. Mr. Javier Barbosa is the art teacher at MNTHS.

     

    The contest encourages young Texans to keep Texas roadways and the environment clean and free of litter. The contest was open to students in kindergarten through twelfth grade and sponsored by H-E-B/Central Market and Buc-ee’s. Each student wins a framed version of their winning artwork, a Samsung Galaxy tablet and a gift basket full of their favorite goodies from Texas' legendary store Buc-ee's. Teachers representing students who produce the top 14 designs also win a $100 H-E-B/Central Market gift card.


    “We were amazed by the incredible talents of Texas schoolchildren from around the state,” said Suzanne Kho, Executive Director of Keep Texas Beautiful.  “It was challenging to choose just 14 winners from the thousands of entries, but we are excited to share the winning designs that remind all Texans of the importance of keeping our great state clean and litter-free.”

     

    Twelve winning designs are assigned to a month in the calendar and two additional are featured on the front and back cover of the 2021 Don’t mess with Texas calendar. At least one winner was chosen from each grade level.

    Attention students, please make sure to get your physicals before the start of school. We encourage you to go to your personal physician for your physical, however Manor ISD will offer two dates for physicals. Space is limited and you must sign up for a specific time.

    Protocols for Physicals on Site:

    • Athletes/students must arrive with a mask on and have temperatures checked before entering the building. 
    • Athletes/students must stay 6 feet away from others during all events. Demarcations of distance will be delineated in the building.
    • Athletes/students will be evaluated in small groups and have assigned timeframes.  There may still be waiting periods, but this will cut down on potential coronavirus exposure.
    • Athletes/students must comply with these directions and others (handwashing, hand sanitizer as appropriate) from staff.
    • Parents must complete and sign forms ahead of time.  Parent entrance to the facility will be limited to emergency or medically important situations that cannot be written on form, even in blank or “other” spaces.

    Pre-Physicals Stations:

    Students will be expected to wait in the cafeteria until they are called back to the pre-screening area (height, weight, vision, and blood pressures stations). 

     

    Once the student has completed the pre-screening area they will be escorted to the physical exam station. Only a set amount of students  will be allowed in at a time. Please make sure you are keeping your social distancing practices. 

     

    All students’ paperwork will be signed and turned into the athletic department. If a student is not cleared to participate the physician will notify them accordingly.
