Yvonne Herrera, a fourth-grade dual language teacher at Bluebonnet Trail Elementary, has been named Manor ISD’s 2025 Elementary Teacher of the Year. With more than a decade of experience in education, Herrera is known across campus for her commitment to academic rigor, bilingual education, and a deeply nurturing classroom culture. She received the honor during the district’s annual Evening of Excellence, presented by A+ Federal Credit Union, and held to recognize outstanding educators and staff across Manor ISD. She will now go on to compete for the Region 13 Elementary Teacher of the Year title later this spring.

Herrera’s approach to education is grounded in the belief that both teachers and students are lifelong learners. Her classroom is a place where curiosity thrives and students are empowered to take ownership of their learning. “My daily goal is continual growth, for both myself and my students,” Herrera said. “As a teacher, I strive to inspire and empower my students to find joy in learning.”

Central to Herrera’s teaching is the idea that students must feel valued and connected in order to thrive. “I believe that students who are loved and feel a sense of belonging become empowered,” she said. “Every day, I hope my students know they are loved, that I see greatness in them and most importantly, that they begin to believe it in themselves.”

Throughout the school year, Herrera has intentionally fostered a classroom community of critical thinkers, observers, and inquiring students who are not only curious about the world, but prepared to find their place in it. She models a growth mindset and provides authentic, culturally relevant lessons that challenge students while supporting their strengths.

Bluebonnet Trail Principal Dr. Meredith Roddy said Herrera is a standout educator whose impact is felt far beyond her classroom.

“Ms. Herrera is a true gem,” Dr. Roddy said. “She embodies everything we hope for in an educator: compassion, innovation, and an unwavering belief in her students. Her ability to build relationships while pushing her students to think critically and love learning is what sets her apart.”

The Evening of Excellence was made possible thanks to the generous support of presenting sponsor A+ Federal Credit Union, along with additional sponsors H-E-B, Manor Schoolhouse Foundation, and Stephen Miller State Farm.
