Manor ISD Mourns the Passing of Trustee Dr. Mary Thomas
Dr. Thomas devoted nearly five decades to public education, serving as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and central office administrator before continuing her service as a member of the Manor ISD Board of Trustees beginning in 2022. Over her 48-year career, she supported schools and students in Commerce ISD, Austin ISD, Manor ISD, and through her work with Starr Consulting Firm and Greater Calvary Bible Church International.
In 2024, Dr. Thomas received the Business Leaders in Education Award from the Forttuna Organization, an international honor recognizing individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and service. She was selected for her lifelong commitment to education and her influence at the local, state, national, and international levels.
“On behalf of the Manor ISD Board of Trustees, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Thomas’ family, friends, and loved ones. We join the entire Manor ISD community in mourning this tremendous loss,” Board President Ana Cortez said. “Dr. Thomas was a servant leader in every sense of the word. She believed deeply in the power of education to transform lives and worked tirelessly to ensure students had opportunities to succeed. Her wisdom, compassion, and steady voice will be greatly missed, and her legacy will continue to guide our work moving forward.”
Superintendent Dr. Robert Sormani previously described Dr. Thomas as “a true trailblazer” whose life’s work reflected a profound commitment to helping others learn, grow, and lead. Colleagues and community members remember her as thoughtful, principled, and unwavering in her dedication to students.
Manor ISD extends its heartfelt condolences to Dr. Thomas’s family, friends, and all who were touched by her life and service. Her contributions to public education and to the Manor community will not be forgotten.
