Dr. Matthew Bentz has been named Manor ISD's new Chief of Schools. With a career spanning over three decades, Dr. Bentz brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of educational leadership, with a deep commitment to maximizing student academic success and creating inclusive, high-performing environments.

Dr. Bentz joins Manor ISD from Leander ISD, where he has served as Chief Academic Officer since 2017. While in Leander, he oversaw all aspects of teaching and learning for a district serving 42,000 students. His work includes developing and implementing the Leander ISD Mathematics Improvement Initiative and a comprehensive early literacy curriculum for K-1 teachers. Dr. Bentz also led the revamp of Special Programs to prioritize inclusive practices and co-teaching models, collaborated on professional learning programs for campus leaders, and spearheaded the establishment of an Early College High School focused on first-generation college students.

"Dr. Bentz is a strong leader and relationship builder who believes in high expectations for both scholars and staff," said Superintendent Dr. Robert Sormani. “His unwavering commitment to the academic success and well-being of all scholars coupled with his bilingual certification and instructional leadership make him an ideal fit for our district. We look forward to seeing him collaborate with our campuses and English and Spanish speaking communities to support the needs and achievement of our scholars."

Dr. Bentz also held the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction position at Agua Fria Union High School District in Avondale, Arizona. There, he led initiatives that significantly improved student performance, including a district-wide mathematics instruction model that resulted in a 35% increase in standardized test scores and establishing a district-wide internship program.

As a principal at Agua Fria High School, Dr. Bentz's leadership propelled the school to an "A" rating, placing it in the top 3% of Title I schools in Arizona. His innovative approaches, such as piloting a co-teaching model for freshman core courses and initiating a free ACT testing program, greatly enhanced student achievement and college readiness.

Dr. Bentz's educational background includes a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, a Master's in Education with a bilingual emphasis, and a Bachelor's in Elementary Education, all from Arizona State University.

“I am honored to be part of a district that is dedicated to fostering academic excellence and inclusivity,” Dr. Bentz said. “I look forward to working with our talented educators, students, families, and community partners to build on the district’s successes and create opportunities for all students to thrive.”
