Howdy! And Welcome to my science classroom. I am happy to start my third year here at Manor Excel Academy. I love everything about this school. And that's hard coming from a longtime, born and raised Elgin Wildcat. I did all of my schooling in Elgin, TX just a mere 18 miles down the road of 290. I graduated from Elgin High School back in 2003. While there, I was in the band and played trumpet since I was at Elgin Middle School. I was a 4 time all-region band member for class 1A - 3A and an all-state trumpet player for 3 years (sophomore, junior and senior years). My senior year I swept all 3 auditions by placing first in region, area and at state. So I was the top trumpet player in the state of Texas for class 1A - 3A. After graduating 6th in my class from EHS I went to Texas A&M University to study animal science. While I was at A&M I was able to audition and be a part of the top sit down band at A&M, The Texas A&M Wind Symphony. There I was able to travel all over Texas and travelled to Europe (England, Ireland and Scotland) the summer of my freshman year at A&M. I also received a minor in agriculture economics as well as a bachelor's degree in animal science. I graduated Texas A&M with an animal science degree and minor in agriculture economics in December 2008.
I graduated and came back to Elgin to get alternatively certified to teach high school science 8-12. Taught IPC and Biology at EHS for one year then went back to school to finish up my requirements for vet school. Came back to teach on year while applying to vet school. I was accepted to veterinary school in St. George's, Grenada, West Indies starting the spring semester of 2014. I was in vet school at St. George's University for a semester then came back to Elgin to discover and be diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. So therefore I did not go back to vet school and came back to Elgin to teach for 3 more years after that. I taught Biology, IPC and Environmental Systems. I then went to Rouse High School and taught Biology and Environmental Systems. I was a Rouse Raider for one year then was transferred over to Glenn High School where I taught Principles of Biomedical Sciences (PLTW), Human Body Systems (PLTW), Environmental Systems and Chemistry. The year I was at Glenn I started a master's degree at St. George's University in Curriculum and Instruction. I graduated in 2019 with a Master of Science in curriculum and instruction. I was a Grizzly for one year before coming to Manor to be the MEA science teacher.
I have been a member of the Austin Symphonic Band for the past 7 years. My middle school band director at Elgin got me in. We have been on sebatical because of this 'Rona since March of 2020. Can't wait to get back to playing again in an ensemble.
My ultimate goal is to eventually transition to becoming an instructional coach for a campus and then a science curriculum coordinator. I'm excited to be in teaching because I thought it was a back up plan but it has become my primary plan in life.
