JJ Murphy

Hello, my name is JJ Murphy and I am MEA’s only Social Studies teacher. I have earned two Bachelor of Science degrees from Tarleton State University.  Teaching is my second career.  When I became a mother for the first time, I found I could not return to the corporate world and I looked into alternative teaching programs.  Today, I am enrolled at Angelo State University Guidance and Counseling Master’s degree program with an emphasis on Academic Advising.  I am a single mom of three beautiful girls who all attend schools in Elgin, Texas. We are a busy stock show family and enjoy traveling with our FFA family and our show heifers. When we are not traveling to stock shows we love visiting the beach and playing with our two Miniature Australian Shepard dogs, Waylon and Sunny.

I have been teaching at the high school level for 15 years and I love working with at-risk students.  I am Social Studies Composite certified and have spent my career teaching World Geography and US History.  Everything we do in life revolves around Geography!

MEA is a campus of choice; I work with students who have or are close to being removed/dropping out of their home campus.  Implementing programs to promote a level of readiness ensuring they are physically, emotionally, and socially capable to prosper in the world and creating a sense of support after high school is important for campuses such as MEA.  I am our campus TSI (Texas Success Initiative) Coordinator, and assist with students/parents with completing college and FASFA application process.  I feel very passionate about providing our students with options of attending post-secondary institutions and ensuring them their dreams can come true.

I look forward to working with each of you and may you all stay safe and healthy until we can see you all back at MEA.
