Mrs. Melanie Griffin-Hamlin

I am so blessed that this is my fifteenth year in public school education for the 2019-2020 school year. This is my seventh year in Manor ISD. I am a proud Spartan, in my third year at Lagos Elementary as the Academic Interventionist, specializing in Literacy. I spent four years teaching 3rd grade at Manor Elementary School, where I served as the grade level chairperson, a member of the campus leadership team and the co-advisor for the Student Council. I am the former co-advisor for our nationally and state recognized Lagos Elementary Student Council. However, this year I am focusing on our awesome Spartan Garden Club, for the second year and helping with our Peer Mediation Group/No Place For Hate. I am also hosting MakerSpace Club, through one of the two grants that I received from Manor SchoolHouse Foundation for the 2018-2019 school year.  I am hoping to implement Club Fridays, where students can join meaningful opportunities to serve their interests with students all across our campus. I am also in charge of co-facilitating our Response-to-Intervention (RtI) team for grade Kindergarten through fifth.

I am originally from Virginia where I taught at J.E.B. Stuart Elementary School (now Pleasants Lane Elementary) from 2005-2012.  My husband's job at Samsung moved our family to the Austin area in 2012. We are the proud parents of two children, who also attend MISD schools. I hold both a Bachelors (Virginia Tech University) and Masters degree (Virginia State University). Currently, I am enrolled at Harvard University's Graduate School of Education in a graduate certificate program, as well as at Arkansas State University's Educational Specialist (Ed.S) program. I am also completing my requirements to become certified through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). I am also fully endorsed in both Gifted and Talented Education and English as a Second Language. I hold active teaching certificates for Early Childhood through sixth grade in both Virginia and Texas.

I have received many awards and recognition during my teaching career. Some of them include:

2019 Lagos Elementary Humanitarian of the Year

2018 Lagos Elementary Humanitarian of the Year

2017 H-E-B Excellence in Education State Semifinalist
2016 Austin, Texas Best Teacher Award (KKMJ)
2015 Steve Harvey’s Nation’s Best Teacher Winner
2015 Texas Region XIII Teacher of the Year Semifinalist
2014 Manor ISD District Teacher of the Year

2014 Manor Elementary School Teacher of the Year

2009 J.E.B. Stuart Elementary School (Virginia) Teacher of the Year

I am an active member of my church, Agape Christian Ministries, where I serve in the Children's Ministry. I am also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a charter member of Tri-Cities, VA chapter of Continental Societies, Inc. We are also a part of the local Girl's Scouts, the PTA, and many more community organizations. I love to travel, cook and write.

I look forward to all new opportunities to work in the field of education and beyond.
