General Guidelines
The following items are prohibited:
· Articles of clothing with pictures, emblems, symbols, slogans, or writings that are lewd, offensive, vulgar, obscene, contain sexual innuendos or cause disruption to the educational process are prohibited.
· Articles of clothing that advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, controlled substances, or other prohibited substances.
· See-through attire is unacceptable unless an article of clothing is worn underneath the garment that complies with the dress code. At no time should undergarments, including bra straps, be visible.
· Torn or ripped clothing is prohibited.
· Students may not wear boxer shorts, pajamas, or other sleepwear as outerwear.
· All articles of clothing must be worn as it is designed to be worn (i.e. not backward or inside out).

Standard Mode of Dress: Elementary Schools
The Manor ISD Elementary Standard Mode of Dress was developed with feedback from parents, MISD staff and students. Based on that feedback, the district has made changes that will make it easier to adhere to this new policy and accommodate the options available to younger students.
For the 2019-2020 school year. Manor ISD will allow students to wear jeans as a pilot.

1.Pants, shorts, and skorts may be khaki, black, or navy and must be worn on the student’s natural waist at all times. Shorts and skorts must be an approved length, which is no shorter than the tips of the fingers when the arms are extended by the sides of the body.
- Blue or black jeans, pants, shorts, and skorts must be free of rips, tears, embellishments, and/or holes.
2. Girls may wear skirts or dresses with tights underneath
3. All clothing must be free of intentional/fashionable holes.
4. Students must wear solid black or brown belts if pants have belt loops.
5. Elementary students may wear their shirt untucked.
6. Elementary students may wear cargo pants
7. Spirit shirts may be worn on Fridays
8. Closed-toe shoes appropriate for gym and recess must be worn every day. No flip flops,
or house shoes.
9. Students in 2nd grade and below are not required to wear a belt.
* The use of hoodies will be evaluated throughout the school year to determine the use for the following school year.

The following Standard Mode of Dress must be adhered to by all Middle School students and scholars:
- Shirts – Short or long-sleeved polo-style (collared) shirts. Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
Fridays are Spirit Days and Students/Scholars will be allowed to wear spirit-shirts.
- Pants-Plain khaki, navy or black pants, shorts, blue or black jeans and skorts must be worn on the student’s natural waist at all times. Shorts and skorts must be an approved length, which is no shorter than the tips of the fingers when the arms are extended by the sides of the body.
- Blue or black jeans, pants, shorts, and skorts must be free of rips, tears, embellishments, and/or holes. Sweatpants are not allowed. Joggers and cargo pants are not allowed.
- Dresses will also be allowed in plain khaki, navy, or black as long as the length is acceptable (no shorter than fingertips when extended to the sides) and are not considered tight.
- Belts-Solid black or brown must be worn if pants have belt loops
- Hoodies-Hoodies are allowed i the grade level colors. However, we will not allow hoods to be worn inside the building. Students will be asked to tuck in hoods upon entering the building.
*The use of hoodies will be evaluated throughout the school year to determine the use for the following school year.
*Scholars attending Manor New Tech Middle School will be required to wear business attire on days they are presenting their projects.

Shirts and Dress Tops
· Shirts must be worn at all times while in the classroom, on school grounds, or at school-related or school-sponsored events.
·nShirts and dress tops must have a strap width of at least 2 inches each and must be worn on the shoulder. Spaghetti straps will not be permitted.
· Except as stated below, shirt length must not extend further than mid-thigh. Any shirt with a length falling below mid-thigh must be tucked in. Shirts must be long enough to cover the midriff, even when arms are raised over the student’s head.
· Undergarments should not be visible in any manner.
· A shirt worn over leggings must meet length requirements for dresses.
· Spandex tops, leotards, crop tops, and tube tops are prohibited.

Pants, Shorts, Capris, Skirts, Skorts, or Dresses
Shorts, skirts, skorts, or dresses must be no shorter than the tips of the fingers when the arms are extended by the sides of the body. The same standard applies to slits or slashes in skirts or dresses.
- Undergarments should not be visible.
- Pants may not sag or bag at the waist or drag on the ground.
- No baggy or sagging oversized clothing is allowed.
- No jeggings, stretch pants, yoga pants or leggings may be worn unless worn under a skirt, dress, or skort that complies with the dress code.
- Spandex material, biker shorts, and cutoffs are prohibited.

Coats or Winter Weather Attire
All winter weather attire must comply with Standard Mode of Dress provisions.
If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s Standard Mode of Dress dress code, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school. If not corrected, the student may be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day, until the problem is corrected, or until a parent or designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to the school. Repeated offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.

Jewelry and Accessories
Earrings are limited to the ears for all students. Earrings include clip earrings, pierced earrings or studs or any item used as a post in a pierced ear. Band-Aids may not be used to cover earrings.
- Lip and nose wear (i.e. rings and studs) are prohibited.
- Tongue rings or studs are prohibited.
- Eyebrow rings or studs are prohibited.
- Certain classes or activities may necessitate the removal of piercings of any kind due to safety concerns.
- Earlobe extenders are prohibited.
- Studded and spiked jewelry (i.e. dog collars) are prohibited.
- Chokers are prohibited.
- Jewelry that causes a distraction or that could be dangerous to the student or other individuals is prohibited (i.e. necklaces made out of safety pins and chain links, large hoop earrings).
- Mouth grills or mouthpieces that are worn over a student’s teeth that serve only a decorative purpose are prohibited.
- Tattoos that are lewd, vulgar, or depict profanity or prohibited items (i.e. alcohol, drugs, or tobacco products) must be covered at all times while in the classroom, on school grounds, or at school activities or school-sponsored events.
- Sunglasses or other eyewear that is not for a medical reason is prohibited from being worn inside school buildings.

Males
Beards and goatees are prohibited unless there is a religious or medical exception. Mustaches are permitted as long as the mustache, including the sides of the mustache, does not extend below the student’s bottom lip.
· Hats, caps, sweatbands, scarves, bandanas, visors, or other head coverings are prohibited in the classroom or school building except on approved occasions or unless there is a religious or medical exception.
· Hair curlers or hair rollers are prohibited.
· Students may not wear hair picks, combs, or brushes in their hair.

Hair and Head Wear
Hair color that is disruptive or distracting to the school environment is prohibited (i.e. colors other than natural hair colors).

Footwear
For reasons of health and safety, shoes must be worn at all times.
The following footwear is prohibited due to health or safety concerns:
o House shoes
o Beach footwear
o Flip flops
o Roller shoes
o Steel toe shoes
o High heels over 2 inches
Certain classes may require students to wear certain types of footwear. For example, athletic shoes may be required for physical education classes and closed toe shoes may be required for chemistry.
