Bilingual Programs
Manor ISD is proud to offer dual language programming at the elementary level, grades PK-5th.
One-Way Dual Language Program
The Dual Language One-Way program serves students in pre-kindergarten to 5th grade that are identified as Emergent Bilingual scholars through state-mandated criteria which includes the Home Language Survey and the state-approved English language proficiency test. All scholars will develop bilingualism and biliteracy in Spanish and English while achieving or exceeding grade level expectations.
Two -Way Dual Language Program
The Manor ISD Two-way Dual Language program is primarily at Bluebonnet Trail and ShadowGlen Elementary for students in kindergarten through 5th grade Eligibility for participation is determined based on state-mandated criteria, including the Home Language Survey and the state-approved English language proficiency test, for students identified as Emergent Bilingual. Additionally, non-Emergent Bilingual students may participate through an application process. The program aims to foster bilingualism and biliteracy in Spanish and English while ensuring that all students meet or exceed academic grade-level expectations.
Families interested in the dual language model are encouraged to participate. It is important to note that in compliance with state law, the dual language class should not be predominantly composed of students who are not identified as Emergent Bilinguals. The class should ideally consist of an equal number of Emergent Bilingual students and non-Emergent Bilingual students. Access to the Dual Language Program will not be determined based on factors such as race, creed, color, religious affiliation, age, or disability.
ESL Program
Manor ISD offers an ESL Content-Based program model at our elementary and secondary level campuses. The objective of the ESL Content-Based program is to facilitate emergent bilingual scholars in achieving comprehensive proficiency in English, enabling their equitable participation in school activities. This is accomplished through the provision of content area instruction (English language arts and reading, mathematics, science, and social studies) by ESL-certified teachers. The instructional delivery encompasses Content-Based Language Instruction strategies.
