Currently, 39% of the district’s buses are not fully equipped with seatbelts. In 2029, State laws will require every school bus to have them.
Currently, 56 buses are approaching or past their useful life, 64% of MISD’s bus fleet.

Prop A funds audio enhancement panic alert systems at elementary schools, perimeter fencing upgrades, expanded security camera coverage, lockdown buttons, enhanced badge systems, door relocations, card-reader access controls, police radios and equipment, network infrastructure upgrades, software subscriptions, intercom and emergency communication equipment, and public address (PA) system upgrades.
The state legislature recently allocated additional funding to schools for safety and security, but it was earmarked for specific purposes and amounts to $10 per student. The district’s safety and security priorities are estimated at $1,070 per student. This bond covers costs not funded by the state.
