Early Exit, Transitional program

The Transitional bilingual program model serves students who are English learners in both English and Spanish until the student is ready to transfer to English-only instruction. This model provides instruction in literacy and academic content areas through Spanish and English, with an emphasis on English oral and academic language development.

All participating students receive instruction in language arts and content subjects primarily in Spanish in the early grades (K-2) with a grade-specific amount of English as a Second Language/English Language Development instruction incorporated daily and increased through the grade levels.  Students transfer to English only instruction within two to five years after enrollment.

Dual Language One-Way Program

The Dual Language One Way Program supports students whose primary language is Spanish to become bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate through literacy and content learning in English and Spanish.

All participating students in the dual language program receive instruction in language arts and content area subjects primarily in Spanish in the early grades (K-2) with a grade-specific amount of English as a Second Language/English Language Development instruction incorporated daily. English instruction is gradually increased through the grade levels (K-2) and by third-grade instruction is presented in a 50% Spanish/50% English format.

ESL Program

The English as a Second Language Program serves students identified as English learners through rich language and content area instruction that develops fluency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English and academic competency.

English learners in grades PK-5 whose native language is not Spanish may receive instruction through an ESL program which does not include native language instruction. Students served in our ESL program are taught by an ESL certified teacher in a pull-out or inclusionary delivery model.
