Manor ISD kicked off the 2018-19 school year with our annual Convocation on Wednesday at Manor Senior High School. The pep rally featured employees from all 15 campuses and central office, and featured lots of excitement and energy.
The ceremony began with a school call-out, in which each campus cheered loudly and showed school spirit. The event then featured remarks from MISD Superintendent Dr. Royce Avery and MISD Board of Trustees President Marlin Thomas. Board Secretary Ana Cortez introduced this year's keynote speaker Henry Cisneros.
Cisneros, who previously served as the Mayor of San Antonio and Secretary for Housing and Urban Development under former President Bill Clinton, spoke about the importance of having public education and thinking of new ways to teach children. Cisneros credited Manor ISD for leading the way in providing innovation in the classroom with state-of-the-art schools and technology.
At the end of the event, Manor High School, Manor Senior High, and Oak Meadows Elementary were awarded this year's Spirit Stick. Those schools will hold on to the prize until next summer.
MISD would like to thank all of our teachers, support staff, board members, and administrators for their continuous hard work, and wish them a great year ahead!
