MHS Student Council Earn Five State Awards, Prestigious Sweepstakes Rating at TASC Convention

The awards and recognitions continue to come in for Manor High School.

On Tuesday, February 27th, MHS Student Council members Brian Velazquez, Tiffany Guerra and Erica Cepeda, along with Advisor Julie Duffield attended the Texas Association of School Councils (TASC) District 18 Spring Convention at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center in Kyle. The team completed and earned the following awards: Pride & Patriotism, Energy & Environment, DASH (Drug, Alcohol, Safety & Health Issues), Outstanding Student Council and Community  Service. By earning 5 out of 6 awards, MHS becomes one of the few prestigious schools in Texas to be named a Sweepstakes award-winning school.

At this convention, the Student Councils in District 18 also voted for next year's officer schools and verified state reports and awards for the 2017-2018 school year. District 18 covers all middle and high schools from Llano to Smithson Valley, and from Jarrell to Schertz. Student Councils must keep records of activities that they complete, community service hours earned and money raised. These totals run from March 2017 to February 2018. There are six different awards that the councils can earn and all members help in the completion of the state reports.

Student Council members will travel to the State Convention in Arlington, Texas in April to be recognized for their accomplishments. The awards will arrive at MHS in May. Congratulations to the MHS Student Council from all of us at Manor ISD!
