    Howdy Bobcats!

I am excited to serve at ShadowGlen Elementary for the third year and can’t wait to see everyone’s bright and eager faces.  It is guaranteed to be an exciting year for everyone and I for one am looking forward to it.  I would like to take this opportunity to share a little about myself both personally and professionally.

I have been married to my best friend for almost 10 years. We are the proud parents of a 9-year-old son named Ethan. He is the light of our lives and the guidepost to which I measure all my interactions with children.  I advocate for our scholars like I advocate for my son and I treat all children the way I would want my son to be treated.  I believe that all children should be treated with love and respect and be held to a level of expectation that will enable them to reach their dreams.

Professionally, I began my career as a high school Biology teacher in both Weslaco and San Antonio Texas.  After earning my Master’s in Educational Leadership from UTSA I moved to Houston and served as an assistant principal at a middle school before becoming a principal at an elementary in Galena Park ISD.  I moved to Austin ISD to lead Palm Elementary as principal for 5 successful years before deciding to begin my doctoral studies at Texas A&M University.  My pursuit of this life-long dream of becoming a doctor of curriculum and instruction brought me to Manor ISD as an assistant principal.

While in Manor ISD I have been privileged to serve 7 of the district’s campuses and have grown to love the staff, students and families of this growing community. It is my goal to serve the families of Manor ISD to the best of my skills and abilities each and every day.

    Sincerely,

    Joanne Garza-Herrera

    Greetings ShadowGlen Bobcats!!

I am humbled and excited to join the ShadowGlen family as the newest Assistant Principal. I look forward to meeting and getting to know all of the families and scholars that make up this wonderful community. I am committed to ensuring the scholars of ShadowGlen Elementary School are provided with a first-class education that will give them the necessary skills to be successful in their futures.

This school year marks my 15th year as an educator. During these past 15 years, I have served as a 2nd and 4th grade teacher in Albuquerque, NM. When my family transitioned to the Austin area, I continued my career in Pflugerville ISD as a middle school math teacher and an elementary school assistant principal.

I graduated from the University of New Mexico with my Master’s degree in Elementary Education in the summer of 2008 and in 2011, I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas, Arlington.

As much as I LOVE being an educator, the role that has had the biggest impact on my life is being wife to my husband Maurice and Mom to our 3 children Maurice IV, Monae’, and Mavrick. They are the reason that I work so hard to ensure that all students have an opportunity to pursue whatever dreams their hearts may hold.

I look forward to working alongside the teachers and staff to continue to lead ShadowGlen down a path where our scholars’ academic, social, and emotional well-being remain our top priority. My door is always open and I look forward to meeting each and every one of you.

Here’s to a successful school year!!
