Ms. Valerie Ann Haywood
Hello and welcome to 4th Grade! My name is Ms. Haywood and I am excited to be an English Language Arts and Reading Teacher at Lagos Elementary! Learning and serving is an absolute passion of mine! I am so excited to work with you and your child. It is going to be a year full of fun, learning, and lots of journeys. I cannot wait to see what the year has in store for us at Lagos! I thought that you might like to know a little about me.This year will be my tenth year in education and fourth year at Manor I.S.D. I have also worked for other school districts such as Austin, Bastrop, Del Valle, Houston, and McDade.
I have lived in Bastrop, Texas almost all my life. I graduated from Bastrop High School. Afterwards, I graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University located in San Antonio, Texas. There I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with concentration in Music (I have played piano for 23 years and the organ for 19 years). Next, I earned my Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Adolescent Literacy from Concordia University which is in Portland, Oregon.
In addition, I am currently in the middle stage of writing my dissertation on Clergy Effectiveness for my Doctor of Education degree with a concentration in Organizational Leadership at Concordia University located in Chicago, Illinois. This fall, I will graduate with my Master’s in Administration and Business with a concentration in Organizational Development and Learning (Human Resources) at Concordia University which is in Austin, Texas! In Bastrop, I serve as board member of the Austin YMCA Bastrop Branch. I play a huge role in volunteering with churches, shelters, literacy organizations, and food pantries.
It is my mission to instill the love for life-long learning in all my students. It is my hope that all of my students grow and develop the skills needed to be a successful global leader in the 21st century and beyond. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. It is imperative to keep communication open between us, and I would love to connect whenever you feel the need. I look forward to an amazing year together!
