MMS Journalism & Media Literacy

Welcome To Mr. Simpson’s Class
Our students live in a multi-tasking multimedia environment. Every day, they are bombarded with conflicting messages telling them how to think and act; what to eat, what to wear, and what to believe.
This class is designed to help our students learn to sift through and analyze these messages, to bring critical thinking skills to bear on all media -- from television and radio to video games and podcasts.
The goal is to empower students and transform their passive relationship with media culture into an active, questioning engagement that will challenge and inspire them to think for themselves.

Students will:
  1.  Identify and explain viewing, reading and listening practices and preferences
  2. Analyze, evaluate, and reflect on media texts they view, listen to, and produce
  3. Use media terminology as they analyze and produce media texts
  4. Compare the content of media texts to real life and their own experiences
  5. Investigate how media texts influence attitudes, behaviors, and values
