Welcome to art, my name is Todd Stevens and this is my first year at
Decker Elementary School. I have lived in the Austin area for a
couple of years and absolutely enjoy everything about it. I am
originally from the great plains, while growing up in Wichita, Kansas
and recieved my BFA in Visual Studies with an emphasis in painting from
Texas Tech University. I was called to inspire young artists when
my high school art teacher Mr. Pfannenstiel encouraged me to
become an artist. I have been a working artist and have been
working with young artists for almost five years. It is truly a
gift to share creative ideas.
Art class should be very exciting for everyone this year. I try
to gear my lessons around the major disciplines of art
(drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, jewlery and printmaking) while
dealing with social issues and art history that is relevant to the
everyday life of a child. Along with the regular lessons, art
class will consist of a warm up drawing before every class. I
believe that it is important for young people to practice drawing and
to have the time to practice on their own.
Along with regular art classes for K-5, I also conduct art club every
Thursday after school from 2:35-4:00 and coach soccer for project
mustang on Wednsday from 5:30-6:30.
