The
curriculum for 4th grade made is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge
and Skills (TEKS). The TEKS focus students' learning on
applying 4th grade mathematics to solve problems connected to
everyday experiences and activities inside and outside of school.
In solving problems students are asked to make a plan, carry out
the plan and evaluate the solution - is the solution reasonable?
We have two six weeks remaining in the
school year. The curriculum for the 5th six weeks is listed
below. Please review this information, talk with your child about
it and discuss with them how the knowledge they gain through the
curriculum helps them in real life.
5th Six Weeks
Students will be expected to:
Describe the relationship between sets of data - by looking at tables, charts and graphs.
Demonstrate translations (slides), reflections (flips) and rotations (turns) using concrete models.
Verify that shapes are congruent (the exact same shape and size).
Verify that shapes have symmetry.
Make generalizations about combinations of a given set of data.
Interpret bar graphs.
The 5th six weeks curriculum also
includes a review of topics covered previously during the school
year in preparation for Math TAKS test in April. These
include fractions, decimals, modeling arrays, multiplication, and
division. We will also cover identifying angles (right, acute and
obtuse); identifying and describing parallel and perpendicular lines,
describing 2 and 3 dimensional figures, temperature, and measurement
and conversion - including weight, mass, capacity, length and volume.
We will also review the concepts of temperature and time.
