Application Process for Free and Reduced Meals
A new free & reduced meal application must be submitted each school year for those interested in participating in the free & reduced meal program. Only one application is needed for an entire household. Students are permitted to receive meal benefits based on last years meal status only until October 3rd or until a new meal application has been processed.
To expedite the approval process of a new meal application, we highly recommend that families submit an application online by clicking on the following link, Meal App Now.
Paper applications are also available at each campus or the Food & Nutrition Services office. You can also print the application from our website. All paper applications should be completed and returned to the school or to the Food and Nutrition Services office. Applications may be submitted at anytime during the school year.
The household size and income criteria identified in the Income Eligibility Chart
will be used to determine eligibility for free and reduced-price benefits. Children from households whose income is at or below the levels shown are eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Foster children who are the legal responsibility of a welfare agency or court may also be eligible for benefits regardless of the income of the household with whom they reside. Eligibility for the foster child is based on the child’s income.
Under the provisions of the free and reduced-price meal policy, the MISD Food and Nutrition Services personnel will review the applications and determine eligibility. Parents or guardians dissatisfied with the ruling of the official may wish to discuss the decision with the reviewing official on an informal basis. Parents wishing to make a formal appeal for a hearing on the decision may make a request either orally or in writing to Jennifer Land, Chief Financial Officer, 10335 Hwy 290 East, Manor, TX 78653 or call (512) 278-4080.
